We are looking for a Democratic Services Officer to join a small, friendly, and busy team working at the heart of the Council. If you are interested in developing your career in a role in Democratic Services where you will be supported to participate in professional and personal development, we want to hear from you.

You will be based in the Democracy Team working closely with elected councillors, senior officers, and partner organisations.

We work flexibly, with a mix of office and remote working, with formal committee meetings held in person at the Council Offices in Farnborough

Your main responsibilities will be to provide professional administration to a range of Elected Member meetings and committees, to advise on procedural and administrative aspects of the Council’s decision-making processes, provide support to elected members and the co-ordination of some civic and mayoral events.

Day to day, you will have responsibility for managing the business of meetings. Your work will include organising meetings and briefings, compiling agendas and minutes of committee and elected member meetings, preparing reports and briefing notes, and managing committee work programmes.

You will have opportunities for varied work with civic and mayoral events and support for elections during election periods.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a committee administration role, or transferable skills from a previous administration role with a good standard of written English and the ability to participate successfully in professional training.

You will be able to work successfully with others, with good communication skills, and with discretion in a political environment. You work well under pressure, are resilient, and can plan and organise work effectively to manage competing demands to deadlines. You show attention to detail and accuracy in work and are confident in using IT.

The nature of the role means that attending evening meetings is necessary approximately three times a month - this is a mix of in person and virtual meetings. There is flexible working to support this.
